Your MBA Application Essay will help you obtain your goals in entering an MBA program. To be successful in business there are a number of factors that you need to consider before submitting your application. Do you have enough experience? Are the recommendations you need attainable? Is your essay the best that it can be? In order to help you write your application essay there are ten tips you will need. These tips will give you the correct spin on your Mba Application for a successful business education.
Positive language is the best way to succeed on your essay. You need to say what is rather than what is not. In other words you should not use the words "do not," "cannot," etc.
Your sentences should change in structure. The most simple sentence is subject, verb, and object. This can be quite boring for the reader. If you have complex, simple, and compound sentences the reader will feel more inclined to keep reading.
Paragraph transitions are needed. Furthermore, additionally, moreover, or even later can help you obtain a better sentence structure and transition throughout the essay. You will want to use these transitions sparingly rather than every time you need to move to a new topic.
Vocabulary skills should fit the person. You have been taught vocabulary since grade school; however, not all words will fit properly within your personality. You should write using words that sound natural to you. Communicating with words you do not know or understand will not impress the reader of your MBA Application Essay.
Repeating the same words throughout your work is unhelpful to the task at hand. If you find yourself using similar vocabulary such as "reason," "however," "like," and others use your thesaurus. Word has a thesaurus built in to help you find a different word to use.
Being brief is helpful. State your point in as little words as possible while still varying your sentence structure. For example, 'During the last two years, I have developed in sophistication and improved my time management skills as befits my current position.' This is a long sentence. It does bring the point across. It could have been structured differently, though- 'During my two years employment, I matured and developed better time management.'
Your sentences should not contain qualifiers: somewhat, quite, probably, possibly- are all words that are vague.
Each word in your MBA Application Essay needs to count. Repetition is unnecessary since each sentence should be new and state your point correctly.
Active rather than a passive voice is necessary. The word "was" is passive. Words such as matured, sent, acted, etc. are active.
There are numerous books on the basic rules of grammar, punctuation, and composition. These books help you determine the rules you need to follow in writing a constructive essay.
MBA Application Essays require a lengthy amount of time to perfect what you want to say and to ensure your basic language skills are apparent.
