Your MBA Essay will determine your success in obtaining admission into a business program. Your essay needs to discuss experiences, events, and people who have had a positive influence on you to join the MBA field. When you first examine the needs of the essay it may feel like there is a lot of information to share. In fact, what the essay is asking for is for specific instances rather than a general overview. The more specific you can get in your answers to the essay questions the better. You must stand out from the rest of the applicants to succeed. There are 10 things you can do to make sure your MBA Essay is a triumph.

Begin your essay with a clear theme by using a thesis statement. The theme you choose must answer the question on the MBA Essay. There are four questions typically found on the essay which you should learn and practice on.

Plan your essay. Once you have a clear thesis statement you must determine what points will help you discuss the topic and what organization it needs. I.e. the order should appear logical as well as concise.

Examples are extremely important. The examples used must uphold the thesis. The examples you choose must be real life experiences you have had.

The MBA Essay is meant to show what interests you. The admission staff does not want a template article. It should be distinctive.

Your sentence structure should be clear and concise. By reading aloud your completed essay you can determine what sentences are not as precise as they should be.

The beginning of your essay needs an engaging point. This could be an anecdote, question, or description. Even a question is considered a good starting point.

Your conclusion must sum up all examples, points, and the thesis of your essay.

Upon completion of the essay revise it three times. Each time you should be looking for different things. First, is the thesis clear? Are your sentences clear? Second, is the grammar, punctuation, composition correct? Third, have all mistakes on previous edits been corrected?

Once you are done editing the piece you need at least one person to read through the document. They will help you catch mistakes you may have missed. They may also discover areas that need more support or a clearer meaning.

Before turning in the MBA Essay set it aside for a week. After this time look at the essay again. Often times allowing a written piece of work to sit for a little while will provide you a new perspective when reviewing it.

The essay for admission is one gateway into a business school. It will ask for pieces of yourself. It is not something you can leave until the last minute and then turn in. Writing the essay should take you several weeks before completion. The selection committee reviewing your application can tell the difference between students who waited until the last minute to write their essay.
