Good MBA Recommendations letter may just be what will secure your MBA. Most prestigious universities will be skimming through several thousands of equally competent and qualified applicants who are all claiming that they are prime MBA candidates. At this point, what the universities will want to know is who else thinks that you will be an asset to their program?

Now, how do you know who that right person is? Some applicants will assume that universities are looking forward to being wowed and will go through hell and high water to ask the CEO of the company they're currently working in to give them an MBA Recommendations letter. They figure, how can a recommendation letter from a CEO go wrong? The answer to that is quite easy, actually. If the CEO doesn't know the first thing about you, who you are, what kind of work you can do, then they probably wouldn't be able to know what to recommend about you at all.

Other applicants will run straight to the obvious recommender: the college professor. In other areas of the academe, this is actual sound advice, as they should know your strengths and weaknesses, especially in the field you are involved in. However, the problem here might be that college was several years ago and your college professors may already be hard pressed to remember who you are.

Fortunately, there are several alternatives to the company president or your old college professors.

MBA Recommendations from current and former clients

Being a natural in dealing with clients will come in handy when you think of applying for an MBA. Unlike the fresh graduate applying for any other Master's degree, you are a practicing professional whose skills and talents are already being judged by the people you work with. Current and former clients will give better, more detailed MBA Recommendations for your MBA than a former professor can. And if you managed to deliver one hundred percent customer satisfaction, they'll also give you a more enthusiastic recommendation for your MBA.

Immediate Superiors and Colleagues

Rather than asking the big boss of your company to give you a recommendation, ask your immediate boss instead. This is going to work very well in your favor if you have a great working relationship with your boss, who should definitely give you a glowing recommendation as an employee working to get their MBA will be an asset to the company. They will also be able to give a fair and qualified evaluation of your capacities, since you must have amassed more knowledge and work experience since you graduated from college.

If you don't get along with your boss, or you plan to leave the company to take your MBA full time, it might not be a good idea to ask a recommendation from your immediate superior at all. Instead, look to your co-workers and associates. Universities are already accepting MBA Recommendations from peers, given that those who work closely with the applicant each day should be able to give a good evaluation of their capacities. Choose associates who are in good standing with the company, to show credibility.

Finally, be very helpful and grateful that the recommenders you choose are willing to recommend you at all. This will ensure that the recommendation will be as good as your relationship. You'll find you won't be the only one celebrating once your results come in.
